The evening’s keynote speaker was Faiza Patel, co-director of the Liberty and National Security Program at the Brennan Center, focusing on national security and civil liberties issues affecting Muslims in the United States. Other honorees included Carmelyn Malalis, Chair of the New York City Commission on Human Rights, who was awarded Advocate of the Year, with the Trailblazer award going to CUNY’s CLEAR (Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility) Project.
