# Kelley Drye Advises On Successful Bid for Telecom Contract

A team of Kelley Drye attorneys recently conducted a legal review of satellite landing rights issues in 20 countries on five continents to help Raytheon Company and its bidding partner, TRW, Inc., win a $4.9 billion contract from the U.S. Government for a new global meteorological satellite system called NPOESS (National Polar-Orbiting Operational Satellite System).

Kelley Drye attorneys coordinated with local counsel in nearly every target country, focusing on environmental issues. Their work, which identified strategies for dealing with regulatory issues in each country, diminished the perceived risk of dependency upon foreign landing sites. The mitigation of this risk was an important factor in the Government’s selection of TRW/Raytheon’s design.
