# *Entrepreneur* Features Partner Barbara Hoey: What You Need to Understand About the Google Firing and Free Speech at Work

Partner [Barbara Hoey](/Our-People/Barbara-E-Hoey) was featured in the *Entrepreneur* article ​“What You Need to Understand About the Google Firing and Free Speech at Work,” discussing Google’s recent firing of James Damore, a software engineer, after he distributed a controversial memo on gender diversity within the organization.

“In order to be protected, as a general matter, a complaint must be made in good faith and based on accurate information,” Barbara said.

Barbara explains that there are legitimate, legal ways to communicate if you have a workplace complaint or grievance. She points to three facts to avoid similar situations: know your company’s code of conduct, have your facts straight and be constructive.
