# DataGuidance Quotes Partner Dana B. Rosenfeld on FTC Settlement with Mobile Apps Developer

Partner Dana B. Rosenfeld was quoted in the *DataGuidance* article, ​“US: First FTC Settlement with Mobile Apps Developer a ​‘Significant Deterrent.’ ” The article discussed the Federal Trade Commission’s recent settlement with W3 Innovations over a violation of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. W3 Innovations agreed to pay $50,000 to settle the charges.

“Despite the low monetary penalty, the settlement is likely to have a significant deterrent value because of the message it sends to other mobile app operators regarding the application of COPPA to information collection via mobile apps,” said Ms. Rosenfeld. She continued, ​“While the W3 settlement marks the FTC’s first enforcement action against a mobile app developer, it won’t be the last.”
