# Understanding the TCPA: Key Insights and Why Compliance Matters

This session will provide an outline of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the federal consumer privacy statute that regulates calling, texting, and faxing. The TCPA is a significant source of consumer class action litigation and failure to comply with the statute can expose a business to significant financial liability. The discussion will include an outline of the TCPA and associated regulations, highlights of key compliance considerations, and a review of examples of noteworthy TCPA cases, including cases that have ended with high-dollar penalties or settlements being paid by defendants.
