# Understanding the Complexities of Retaliation and Whistleblowing Claims

National Employment Law Institute’s 34th Annual Public Sector EEO & Employment Law Conference

On August 14th, 2014 partner [Barbara E. Hoey](/Our-People/Barbara-E-Hoey) will speak at the National Employment Law Institute’s 34th Annual Public Sector EEO & Employment Law Conference. The conference analyzes major recent employment law developments and their impact on public sector employment practices.

Ms. Hoey will participate in a session entitled ​“Understanding the Complexities of Retaliation and Whistleblowing Claims.” The session will focus on recent decisions defining ​“protected activity” and what knowledge is necessary for employees to establish a whistleblower claim, while examining the explosion of whistleblower legislation such as Dodd Frank and exploring strategies to avoid/minimize liability in a rapidly escalating risk environment.
