# The Biden Administration’s Focus on Environmental Justice and What that Means for Ports

Partner [Bill Jackson](/Our-People/William-J-Jackson), senior associate [Lauren Shah](/Our-People/Lauren-H-Shah), and associate [Maria Pimienta](/Our-People/Maria-Pimienta) attended the Fall Meeting of the Gulf Ports Association on November 4, 2021 in Houston, Texas. Kelley Drye presented on ​“The Biden Administration’s Focus on Environmental Justice and What that Means for Ports.” As one of the administration’s top environmental priorities, environmental justice can lead to increased scrutiny of ports by environmental regulators, as they tend to be co-located with environmental justice communities. He identified ways ports can prepare for such scrutiny, such as evaluating recordkeeping practices and preparing for inspections.
