# Navigating the Rules: A Legislative Advocacy and Political Compliance Seminar

An increasingly complex matrix of laws, regulations, and rules govern the conduct of legislative and political activity. This complimentary seminar is designed to provide guidance to for-profit and non-profit organizations seeking to establish a comprehensive legislative and political compliance program, with a particular emphasis on organizations that engage in legislative or political activities in more than one state and/or at the federal level.

*Legislative Advocacy and Government Ethics.* Using case studies, presenter, [David Frulla](https://www.kelleydrye.com/people/david-e-frulla), will discuss the legal and ethical issues that can arise when members of the private sector interact with government officials and employees during the legislative process, including: lobbying restrictions and disclosure requirements; gift rules; reimbursements and payments for travel; ​“revolving door” and other post-employment restrictions.

*Campaign Activity.* The seminar also will review issues common to those participating in the campaign and electoral process, including: executive fundraising, solicitations, and bundling rules; simultaneously navigating state and federal regulatory regimes; forming and working with ​“527” and 501(c) organizations; and political activity in the workplace, including the use of staff for political activities.

With a steady increase in enforcement actions and state and federal ​“reform” efforts, it is more important than ever to develop an effective, up-to-date compliance program.
