Partner [Ira Kasdan](/Our-People/Ira-T-Kasdan) gave a presentation for the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks & Aquarium (AAMPA). His presentation, ​“Animal Law Property Issues and the U.S. Constitution**”** discussed the details of the *Nonhuman Rights Project, Inc. v. Breheny* (A/K/A Happy the Elephant, Fifth Amendment ​“Takings Clause”) and *ALDF v. Kelly* (First Amendment ​“FREEDOM OF SPEECH”) cases. Ira and his team of Kelley Drye lawyers had submitted three amicus briefs on behalf of Protect the Harvest, the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks & Aquariums, and other Firm clients in the *Breheny* case in support of the Bronx Zoo’s position – which was affirmed by the New York Court of Appeals – that Happy the Elephant was not a ​“person” for purposes of being ​“freed” under New York State’s habeas corpus common and statutory law.
