# An Overview of Privacy Law and Enforcement

Attorney General’s Advocacy Institute

 January 26, 2015

Associate [Glenn Graham](/Our-People/Glenn-T-Graham) was a faculty presenter for “An Overview of Privacy Law and Enforcement” at the Attorney General’s Advocacy Institute on January 26, 2015.

In the age of the Internet, the easy collection, rapid transfer, and frequent sale of consumer information is often at odds with individuals’ right to privacy, or “the right to be left alone.” With few exceptions, the collection and exchange of consumer information remains largely unregulated, and law enforcement consists of a patch work of State and Federal authorities. This presentation provided an overview of the various categories of privacy, including information privacy, outline several regulated “sectors”, highlighted important federal and state enforcement actions, and compared and contrasted the approach to privacy in the United States with other countries.
