SOPHIE BERNER-EYDE Associate
Sophie Berner-Eyde is an associate in the firm’s Brussels office.  Her practice focuses on government relations, including assisting the firm’s clients to advance their legislative and policy goals at national and international levels. Sophie also supports the firm’s Belgian and U.S. teams on a wide range of international, EU and national law and policy issues dealing with Brexit, international trade and investment, export control and sanctions, commercial transactions, and dispute resolution. She has experience in multiple business sectors including energy, entertainment, food and drug, animals, fisheries, and transportation.

Prior to joining Kelley Drye, Sophie worked in the dispute resolution practice of a leading law firm in Paris, focusing on complex commercial disputes across a wide range of areas. She has also worked with a prominent international arbitrator in the MENA region, assisting in the case management of commercial and investment arbitrations. Sophie also has experience of international organizations and fora, having worked as a junior trade policy analyst at the World Trade Organization, as a junior legal adviser/intern at the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in New York and for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in various capacities.

Sophie is a Member of Young Arbitrators Sweden (YAS) and a Mentor in Law Without Walls (LWOW), a part-virtual international collaboratory on legal entrepreneurship sponsored by The University of Miami School of Law. She speaks fluent English, French, Swedish, and German and has limited working proficiency in Spanish, Norwegian and Danish. Sophie has cross cultural sensitivity as a result of having lived in several countries, including Russia, India, Germany, France, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, the U.S., Lebanon, Kosovo, Senegal, and Mali. Sophie enjoys helping clients identify business risks and opportunities and navigate legal and policy matters that span multiple national jurisdictions, the European Union and international legal regimes.
