Cathy Lee’s practice focuses on media and entertainment litigation and consumer class action defense. Cathy has represented entertainment studios and talent agencies on a variety of matters, including breach of contract and anti-SLAPP issues. Cathy has also advised companies, including mobile app companies, in Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) issues and defended class actions asserting violations of the TCPA, the California’s Business & Professions Code § 17200 (Unfair Competition), § 17500 (False Advertising), § 17533.7 (Made in USA), and the Consumer Legal Remedies Act (CLRA).
Defended numerous clients in putative class actions alleging claims under the TCPA. Most recently, Cathy won a motion to dismiss a TCPA class action and also won a motion to strike class allegations in another TCPA class action.
Defended an entertainment company in a case alleging breach of contract to pay a finder’s fee in connection with a televised broadcast.
Obtained a dismissal with prejudice for an international real estate company of class actions alleging fraud and unfair business practices, Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 17200.
Conducted an oral argument and obtained a dismissal of defamation action with prejudice for a high net worth individual.
Second-chaired a trial and conducted direct examinations in unfair labor practices case.
Cathy has first-chaired and won a restraining order trial.
