Bret Andrew Sparks is a government relations and public policy advisor in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. He focuses his practice on monitoring and lobbying legislative issues on behalf of clients as well as developing political strategies.
Prior to joining Kelley Drye, Bret was a NOAA Sea Grant Fellow for Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS), where he managed legislative priorities for the Senator’s oceans, fisheries, energy, science, and environment portfolio. He briefed and led the Senator through meetings with high-level officials on matters within his portfolio. Bret drafted legislative text and negotiating language with member offices to advance legislative priorities of the Senator, including maritime security legislation focused on interagency enforcement of illegal fishing activities. He developed relationships with Congressional offices, agencies, lobbyists, trade associations, nonprofit organizations, and corporations. Bret led the appropriations process for constituent requests in both the Commerce, Justice, & Science and the Interior & Environment Subcommittees.
Bret is admitted only in Louisiana. He is practicing under the supervision of principals of the firm who are members of the D.C. bar.
Bret is an annual participant in the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries wild alligator harvest & ranching programs.
