ALYSSA M. SMILOWITZ Associate
Alyssa Smilowitz is an associate in the Labor and Employment practice.  Alyssa represents employers in a broad range of employment law matters including litigation and compliance counseling.  She represents clients in industries, including healthcare, media, fashion, retail, and entertainment, among others.

Alyssa’s litigation practice focuses on representing employers in single-plaintiff and class actions in federal and state courts on employment claims brought under federal, state and local employment laws.  Such claims often include alleged violations of Title VII, the ADA, the New York State Human Rights Law, the New York Labor Law and the New York City Human Rights Law due to alleged discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hour violations and retaliation.  Alyssa has significant experience defending clients against charges and complaints brought before federal, state and local administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the New York State Division of Human Rights and New York City Commission on Human Rights.

In addition to her litigation practice, Alyssa regularly advises clients on compliance with many federal, state and local laws to help employers avoid potential litigation risks.  She counsels clients on all aspects of employment matters, including drafting and reviewing employee handbooks, separation agreements, employer trainings and policies, navigating complicated disability leave management situations and providing advice on employee terminations.

Alyssa is valued by clients for her sensitivity and meticulous detail-oriented approach to conducting high-profile investigations.

Alyssa is a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association, as well as a junior board member and mentor to high school students with Row New York.  She is also a regular contributor to Labor Days, Kelley Drye’s labor and employment law blog.
