Kelley Drye Client Advisory

The Comunications practice prepared a Client Advisory titled FCC Seeks Comment on Local Number Portability Requirements for Common Carriers and Providers of Interconnected VoIP Services.” The Advisory reviews a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (“NPRM”), released by the Federal Communications Commission on November 8, 2007, seeking comment on whether the Commission should extend local number portability (“LNP”) requirements and other numbering-related rules to interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol (“VoIP”) providers. The NPRM also asks whether the Commission should adopt rules specifying the length of porting intervals and other details of the porting process.

The NPRM was published in the Federal Register on February 21, 2008. Thus, comments are due on March 24, 2008 and reply comments are due on April 21, 2008.
