The FCC’s New Privacy Rules: An Overview and Assessment
December 2016
Partner John Heitmann co-authored the DataGuidance article “The FCC’s New Privacy Rules: An Overview and Assessment.” The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently issued a Report and Order (the Order) that imposes comprehensive privacy and data security regulations for providers of broadband internet access services (BIAS) and replaces existing privacy and data security rules for all other telecommunications service providers. John provides an overview of the Order and some key takeaways. He also notes that the change in administration could result in either limited enforcement of the new privacy rules or an effort to reverse the reclassification of broadband altogether.
