2005 Kelley Drye Scholarship Awarded to Georgetown Unversity Law Student

Washington, DC – Ebony A. Smith, a first year law student at Georgetown University, has been awarded the 2005 Kelley Drye Scholarship through the Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Program from the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA).

The Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Program promotes academic excellence and diversity in law schools by awarding newly accepted law students from disadvantaged backgrounds with scholarships to help defray their education expenses. Ms. Smith graduated top of her class from Howard University School of Business in 2002. The Gary, Indiana native is one of 18 scholarship recipients selected from nearly 570 submitted applications.

I’m honored to receive the award,” said Ms. Smith. The MCCA and Kelley Drye are demonstrating their faith in my career as a legal professional. I plan to exceed those expectations so that in the near future, I’ll be in a position to make sure that another student has the same opportunity.”

Ms. Smith has shown herself to be a very capable leader and an individual who strives for the highest level of quality, integrity, and professionalism in every endeavor,” said Paul Rosenthal. Our firm is proud to support the future leaders of our profession.”

Kelley Drye works hard to attract and retain talented professionals from diverse backgrounds because we value different perspectives,” continued Rosenthal. We believe that diversity not only strengthens our team, but also the entire legal profession.”

The scholarship program is named for MCCA’s former executive director, Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr., whose resolve to improve the legal profession and diversity efforts resulted in the founding of MCCA. MCCA advocates for the expanded hiring, retention, and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments and the law firms that serve them.
