The Yahoo News article, “Detroit Bankruptcy Endangers City’s Cultural Gems,” reported that Detroit falling into bankruptcy threatens many of the city’s prized pieces of artwork and cultural masterpieces. Auctioning off pieces from places such as the Detroit Institute of Arts and Detroit Historical Museum could help satisfy the city’s debts, but would strip Detroit of irreplaceable historic artifacts. The article quoted special counsel Ben Feder, who said that in the case of bankruptcy everything “is probably on the table…[but] it would be the choice of the city to go that route. Without the consent of the city of Detroit, probably nothing” [could be sold].
