Tax Partner Quoted in The Washington Times
March 13, 2006
Partner Jack Miles was quoted in The Washington Times article “Courts Erode Case for Excise Tax,” which addresses the persistence of the federal government in levying taxes for long-distance telephone calls, despite losing several court battles on the issue. According to Jack, a class-action case should not lead businesses or individuals to expect an IRS refund check, as tax laws specify that refund applications require consumers to first pay the tax and then request reimbursement. "The IRS requires everyone to go through a lot of hoops before getting any refund," Jack said.
