Partner Dave Frulla was quoted in the South Coast Today article “‘Just one more nail in the coffin,’ fishermen react to Vineyard Wind announcement.” Massachusetts and Rhode Island offered Deepwater Wind and Vineyard Wind contracts for mega watt wind farms, raising questions from fishermen and environmentalists on the effects offshore wind would have on the environment.

Dave is concerned that, while the area leased by Vineyard Wind isn’t seen as fertile ground for scallopers, turbines could affect ocean currents that carry scallop larvae. ​“We don’t know if that changes the pattern of the distribution of scallop larvae because the babies ride the ocean currents and settle,” he noted. ​“If they settle in good places where the bottom is hard and there’s a lot of current so they can filter feed, then they grow. If they settle in bad places, then they don’t grow.”
