September 7, 2010
The New York Law Journal article, "Slowdown in Filings Fuels Competition for Bankruptcy Case," reported that an "enormous turnout" of law firms are competing to work for creditors' committees. With the Jennifer Convertibles bankruptcy, at the meeting to pick counsel for the creditors committee, "lawyers from at least 14 firms showed up, a source said, including Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe; Cooley; and Lowenstein Sandler. The committee picked Kelley Drye & Warren after interviewing five firms ..." A creditors committee member commented on how well the attorneys knew the case, and how they invested significant time and energy in studying it.
