Partner Jeff Jacobson was quoted in the Law360 article “Consumer Protection Cases to Watch In 2017.” The article focuses on must-watch consumer protection disputes and developments, including ongoing fallout from the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Spokeo Inc. v. Robins. The decision found that plaintiffs must allege concrete harm to bring statutory claims, but has since spurred conflicting decisions from lower courts as they consider the ruling’s impact on suits filed under consumer protection and privacy statutes.
“I think we’re going to have a lot more clarity at the end of the year than we do now about the standards a plaintiff needs to meet in a variety of consumer protection cases to be able to survive a motion to dismiss,” Mr. Jacobson told Law360.
