Mr. Evans commented on several issues, including that the lack of local head-to-head competition between the two companies did not stave off the agencies. “In the past ... that type of argument probably would have carried the day. [The agencies] would have allowed the merger to go through because they looked at competition in these local markets,” he said. “I think what you're seeing now with Comcast-Time Warner is the AT&T-T-Mobile analysis is not at the margins. The national market is now a significant theory that has a lot of traction."
