Partner Jonathan K. Cooperman achieved the dismissal of malpractice claims against law firm Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC brought by investor Abraham Lesser who was held liable for $52.9 million after loans for Seattle and Philadelphia-based real estate projects defaulted. The Law360 article “Buchanan Ducks Malpractice Claims In $53M Loan Default Row” discusses the plaintiff’s claims that Buchanan Ingersoll failed to properly advise him on signing documents guaranteeing loans for doomed projects in Philadelphia and Seattle. The New York Supreme Court Justice Carolyn E. Demarest ruled the absence of an attorney-client relationship negated the malpractice claims.
