Partner and chair of the White Collar, Investigations and Compliance practice Jaimie Nawaday
has been quoted in numerous articles surrounding the firing of Southern District of New York (SDNY) U.S. Attorney, Geoffrey Berman after a tense back and forth with Attorney General William Barr.
Speaking to Courthouse News,
Nawaday, a former prosecutor with the SDNY, reflected on the similarities with the firing of former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara. “I was in the office when Preet was fired, and that was a very demoralizing, disheartening moment,” Jaimie said in the interview, “And [Berman’s ouster] seemed even worse because of the way it went down.”
When asked about Berman by the New York Law Journal
, Jaimie said, “He was respected as even-handed and fair, and I suspect that cost him, unfortunately.”
Jaimie also joined over 130 former Manhattan federal prosecutors in signing a letter condemning President Trump’s firing of Berman, which you can find in Corporate Crime Reporter
