The Global Arbitration Review article, "Nigerian Award Upheld in Three Jurisdictions" reported on Kelley Drye's successful representation of Nigerian electronics manufacturer, Continental Transfert Technique. The company had won an arbitration against the government of Nigeria. With this latest August 3, 2011 decision, Judge Paul Friedman of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, granted Continental's s right to enforce its arbitration award against Nigeria's assets in the United States. With arbitral rulings in London, Lagos and now Washington, D.C., Continental can enforce its awards against asset in all three jurisdictions.
The article quoted partner Paul F. Doyle, who represented Continental in the U.S. proceeding. "'We are hoping that since we now have UK, US and Nigerian court orders enforcing the award, that the Nigerian government will honour the judgment and pay our client.'"
