The article discusses reactions from more than a dozen states to President Trump’s retraction of a Federal Communications Commission regulation that would have required telecommunications companies to inform their customers if they planned to sell their information. Steve said California, Connecticut, and Massachusetts “are likely to pick up the mantle of privacy enforcement if the federal agencies cannot, or do not, act on broadband privacy matters.” Minnesota and Wisconsin have already passed state legislative laws requiring consumer consent before internet service providers can share their information with a third party.
