Partner Sarah Roller is a co-chair of ACI’s FDA & USDA Compliance Boot Camp, which was held in Chicago, IL. She also spoke during the session, “Understanding the Role of ‘Outside Influencers’ on Food Regulation,” on October 4, 2012. This panel engaged participants in a thought-provoking discussion of how quasi- and non-governmental agencies are fostering the regulation of the food industry. Utilizing scientific studies and the initiation of private litigation as a catalyst for bringing regulatory issues to the forefront, more and more often regulation and legislation of the food industry at both the state and federal level is being spawned by actions not generated within a government agency. The presenters shared thoughts on how non-government agencies have been spurring the government into action.
