On May 7, 2013 partner John Heitmann participated in the FCBA hosted event "The European Union's New Privacy Approach And Doing Business in the Global Cloud: What Practitioners Need to Know" in Washington, D.C.  The European Union (EU) is in the midst of a complete overhaul of how it will regulate data.  The new Data Protection Regulation, proposed a year ago, has been moving through the EU legislative process, but has far to go.  The new Regulation would impose a uniform approach on the entire EU, would create a new EU-wide regulator and increase penalties to up to 2% of the global revenue.  The regulation would watershed a variety of changes within the privacy landscape. Two panel discussions outlined the details of these engaging global privacy issues.  Mr. Heitmann moderated a panel discussion titled "The New EU Data Protection Regulation."
