Partner Eric McClafferty was a featured speaker at American Conference Institute’s “12th National Forum on Export Controls: Global Compliance Strategies,” in Washington, D.C. The conference focused on the global compliance challenges facing U.S. exporters and their trading partners as the United States continues to increase enforcement activities in all areas of international trade regulation and as export controls become increasingly restrictive.

On May 20, 2009, Mr. McClafferty led a panel discussion titled, “Screening and Managing the Access of Foreign National Employees.” Panel topics of discussion included: Obtaining and administering license approvals for “dual” and “third national” employees; Screening foreign nationals without discriminating on the basis of national origin; The interplay of E.U., Australian and Canadian human rights and privacy laws; Implementing effective IT & physical controls and managing access to restricted areas and company networks; Ensuring compliance by engineers and technical personnel in the U.S. and abroad; Overcoming technology transfer challenges posed by foreign acquisition; Implementing a global technology control plan required by U.S. regulations and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (or CFIUS); and Meeting recordkeeping requirements.
