Partner Beth D. Jacob will co-chair the session “Feeding the World: Is Technology-Based Farming Sustainable?” at the International Bar Association Annual Conference on September 19, 2016. This session will consider the issue of modern agriculture and the ethical and practical dilemmas that are raised including: pesticide pollution, resistance of insects, small farmers pushed out of business, the creation of monocultures and the cloning of animals in meat production. What is the role of regulation and who should make the rules? Africa, Asia, South America, the US and Europe may have different concerns as to whether, and how, a new balance might be found. Is the present regulatory framework adequate to incentivize a new equilibrium?

Kelley Drye is part of the official Conference Host Committee.
