On March 31, 2011 partner Sarah Roller presented at the American Conference Institute Advanced Legal Summit on Food & Beverage Marketing & Advertising in Washington, D.C. In the session, she deciphered the regulatory landscape that is currently applicable to food labels. Additionally, she discussed how proposed changes under the Food and Drug Administration’s Front-of-Package Labeling Initiative could impact current business operations and how to develop an internal compliance program for pre-screening product labels to ensure truthfulness and accuracy. In addition, the session touched on avoiding the use of “unauthorized” terms on your product label – how to assert specific nutrient content and health claims and how to respond to allegations of misbranding based on information included in nutrient content claims.
