Municipal Energy Leadership Forum: How Municipalities Can Harness Energy Opportunities for Residents

Kelley Drye Seminar

September 28, 2012 from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm (EDT)

Join Kelley Drye & Warren LLP for a seminar titled, Municipal Energy Leadership Forum: How Municipalities Can Harness Energy Opportunities for Residents.” This program discussed how municipalities and energy suppliers can build on existing municipal aggregation programs, and provide better energy products at lower cost. The seminar consisted of three panels featuring 12 industry experts.

The first panel, Best Practices in a Successful Municipal Aggregation Program,” discussed issues such as, procuring a green power mix above the statutory minimum; achieving the lowest possible price eligible participants can receive through an RFP process; whether the competitive bid process is the most successful path to success; and whether municipalities or the utilities should retain control of customer information.

For the second panel, Energy Efficiency, Demand Response and Distributed Generation,” panelists examined how well EE/DR plans are working in Illinois and what municipalities can do to develop EE/DR programs and distributed generation resources within communities.

The third panel, Next Steps - How Municipalities Can Best Position Themselves to Take Advantage of Future Opportunities,” discussed the fact that many of the first round of Municipal Aggregation agreements will be expiring within the next year and thereby examine the next steps communities may undertake if pursing a new aggregation plan, as well as additional avenues for providing cost-effective electric service and choice.

The presentations were followed by a luncheon and an opportunity for networking for all guests and presenters.
