Join Kelley Drye's Government Relations and Public Policy group for a breakfast discussion with House Energy & Commerce Committee Member Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE). This unique opportunity for dialogue with a U.S. Representative comes at the end of the first session of the 112th Congress, with less than a year to go before the 2012 Presidential and Congressional elections. Congressman Terry will discuss his policy priorities and prospects for the coming year in Congress. The event is limited to clients and friends of the firm.
Congressman Terry will address the following cutting-edge policy issues:
- Telecommunications: As the current Vice-Chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Communications & Technology, Congressman Terry will discuss the Subcommittee's recent efforts to overhaul how the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) operates, the latest on Universal Service Reform, his plans to begin re-examining the 1992 Cable Act, and several other priorities of the Subcommittee in the coming year.
- Energy and Environment: Congressman Terry will discuss our nation's current energy mix and what role the government can and should take to meet growing energy demands. He will shed light to investors on prospects for policy change that could impact both conventional fuel sources, as well as emerging technologies and alternative fuels.
- Healthcare: Congressman Terry will offer his ideas for improving the current healthcare system, with a particular focus on improving home healthcare as well as the quality and cost of long-term care. He will also share his thoughts on the Supreme Court's pending decision on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act.
Congressman Lee Terry represents Nebraska's 2nd District. Congressman Terry currently serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has broad jurisdiction and is responsible for legislative matters dealing with the supply and transmission of energy, telecommunications, and interstate and foreign commerce - amongst other topics. After years of extensive committee work and research on information transmission technologies, Congressman Terry's peers elected him Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology. In addition to these posts, Terry is a member of the Energy Committee's Subcommittees on Energy and Power and Oversight and Investigations. Congressman Terry has been named one of the most bipartisan members of the House of Representatives by The Hill newspaper and was named a "heavyweight" in the telecommunications and media policy fields in the 111th Congress.
