After much delay, the Federal Communications Commission adopted orders advancing the Connect America Fund (CAF) and the Mobility Fund. The CAF provides support for fixed broadband connections, and the Mobility Fund provides support for the deployment of LTE service in remote areas. The Mobility Fund will offer $4.53 billion over the next decade, and the available CAF support totals $1.98 billion, although additional FCC action is still necessary before qualifying carriers will receive support.
During the webinar, we will review the FCC’s recent orders, the requirements imposed on support recipients, and the issues service providers may wish to weigh in on before the FCC starts awarding funding through reverse auction. We will also discuss actions the FCC has already taken to support broadband deployment and the prospects for broadband funding through federal infrastructure legislation.
