Harvey Zimand
Yale University, LLB, 1957
University of Chicago, MA, 1951
Colgate University, BA, 1950
"I joined Kelley Drye in 1957 because of its excellent reputation. Kelley Drye associates and partners have good relationships, and the Firm is very fair, ensuring that associates are given merit for their good work. As an associate, I especially enjoyed working with John Drye on Chrysler family matters."

Merrill Stone
Columbia University, JD, Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, 1976
Comments Editor, Columbia Human Rights Law Review
Rutgers, BA, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, 1973
Merrill joined Kelley Drye after hearing great things from classmates at Columbia encouraging him to apply. He was instantly impressed with the level of responsibility given to junior associates. As an unassigned associate, he spent a good deal of the time involved in a major litigation with a senior partner and another associate. His first major assignment after being assigned to a department involved a matter in which Kelley Drye directly persuaded the New York Banking Department to adopt certain regulations under a newly enacted statute, which would have otherwise adversely affected the Firm’s foreign bank clients.

Sarah Reid
Harvard Law School, JD, 1977
Bryn Mawr College, AB, magna cum laude with honors, 1974
"I decided I wanted to become a lawyer when I was nineteen, and my grandparents took
me to see an argument before the U.S. Supreme Court. I thought to myself,
'that could be me one day.' One of the reasons I chose Kelley Drye as a summer
associate was because it was the only firm whose interviewer, a senior partner,
treated me as if he found our discussion on the law interesting and thought-provoking.
I could imagine being a lawyer at his firm." After spending an intense first
year involved in a major litigation, Sarah began working on matters for a
predecessor to JPMorgan Chase Bank. Last year, she did get her chance to argue
a case before the U.S. Supreme Court: for that very bank she had first
represented as young associate. The case was decided unanimously in favor
of the client.

Elli Teitz
Columbia University, JD, Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, 1979
Barnard College, BA, Biology, cum laude, 1976
Departmental Honors in Biology
National Merit Scholar
Several minutes into Elli's call-back interview at Kelley Drye, the interviewing partner was interrupted by delivery of documents for immediate review and enlisted Elli's assistance. "It was such a welcome change from the canned questions at other interviews that I wasn't taken aback -- it was an interesting and unexpected challenge." Elli also found the atmosphere at Kelley Drye very appealing. "The firm had a relaxed and friendly ambience, in marked contrast to several other firms I was considering, where the atmosphere seemed frenetic and charged with tension."

Jon Cooperman
Syracuse University, JD, magna cum laude, 1985
Williams College, BA-History, 1982
"As a summer associate, what drew me to Kelley Drye was the people. Kelley Drye seemed to be a more friendly and collegial place than other firms where I interviewed. My instincts were proven correct. I had a great and diverse experience as a young associate and obtained valuable experience working closely with partners and senior associates on major trials, as well as from being sent overseas for three months to work on a major international litigation."

Chris Palermo
Georgetown University, JD, cum laude, 1987
Notes and Comments Editor, Law and Policy in International Business, 1986-87
Princeton University, AB, cum laude, 1984
"What attracted me to Kelley Drye as a summer associate was the interesting mix of work. During my first year, I worked on a historic preservation matter involving property allegedly landscaped by Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed Central Park. Since I was a history major in school, this was very exciting."

Julian Solotorovsky
John Marshall Law School, JD, 1978
University of Virginia, BA, 1973
"One summer during law school, Julian worked on a Mississippi River towboat called the Acadian Jane, before embarking on an entirely different type of challenge: serving as Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. A partner at Kelley Drye since 1990, Julian says, “I use my background at the U.S. Attorney’s office every day. The way I approach matters reflects my experience as a prosecutor."

Jim Carr
University of Notre Dame, JD, 1987
Upsala College, BA, cum laude, 1984
"While I was a law clerk in the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division, I learned to write under strict deadlines, and to recognize what judges look for in written arguments– skills that I was able to use at Kelley Drye. I had one of the most interesting cases of my career as a second-year associate. It was a pro bono case involving a client who was stranded overseas after her assets in the United States were wrongfully frozen, leaving her penniless. We were eventually able to obtain monetary damages against the bank on her behalf and secure her safe return, which was incredibly gratifying."

Robert Friedman

Tufts University, BA, cum laude, 1986
1985 Academic All-American Football Team, second team
"Before joining Kelley Drye, Rob worked for several years as a District Attorney for Kings County (Brooklyn), New York. “In private practice, and as a prosecutor, the ultimate task for the attorney is to investigate facts and the truth. When I first joined Kelley Drye, I found that there were more parallels than I had initially expected, and I was amazed at the trial expertise of the Kelley Drye litigation group."
