Associate Stephen Arner successfully obtained lawful permanent residency for an HIV+ immigrant from Ethiopia.  The client initially came to the Whitman Walker Clinic in Washington in April 2006, and Kelley Drye took on the case in May 2006. After meeting with the client and his family, Kelley Drye prepared an I-130 petition, an I-485 application for adjustment of status, an I-601 request for waiver of grounds of excludability, the related declaration and cover letter, and submitted the documents to the Department of Homeland Security in September 2006. While the application was pending, Kelley Drye successfully applied for the client's I-765 work authorization. Kelley Drye represented the client at an April 2007 hearing. At the end of August 2007, Kelley Drye was informed that the client's application for permanent residency had been granted, and that he would receive a green card.
