Steve Arner, an associate in the Litigation Practice Group, represented a young man living in Zimbabwe who had been denied admission into the United States despite being granted derivative asylee status, and having a family mamber already in the country, because he is HIV-positive. Mr. Arner prepared an I-602 waiver of grounds of excludability, an HIV supplement, a declaration, and a cover letter setting forth the client's factual and legal arguments in support of his waiver request, for submission to the U.S. Embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe. The young man's waiver request was granted, and he was issued a visa permitting his entry into the United States, where he will rejoin his family.
