Partner John Heitmann was quoted in an XChange Magazine article about copper retirement notices. Mr. Heitmann predicted that Verizon will take actions to ensure that copper is retired to limit their competition, as their FiOS system runs on fiber optic cable. With regard to competitive local exchange carriers' concerns that homeland security and public safety communications could be disrupted by copper retirement, Mr. Heitmann noted that while copper conducts electricity, fiber does not.
