The 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards took place at the Waldorf Astoria in New York, on Saturday, May 14, 2016. The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives. The Awards also fund GLAAD’s work to amplify stories from the LGBT community, building support for equality. Hosted by Laverne Cox, the event honorees included Robert De Niro, who received the Excellence in Media Award and Mariah Carey, recognized with the Ally Award. Diane Sawyer and Caitlyn Jenner also received awards for Outstanding TV Journalism. Kelley Drye attendees at this star-studded event were NY partners Barbara E. Hoey, Mark A. Konkel and Damon W. Suden, along with invited guests.

GLAAD, founded in New York City in 1985, serves the voice of the LGBT community by empowering real people to share their stories, holding the media accountable for the words and images they present, and helping grassroots organizations communicate effectively. GLAAD Media Awards are held in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
