On May 20, 2014 partner Henry T. Kelly spoke at the 2014 PCIA Wireless Infrastructure Show in Orlando, FL. Mr. Kelly spoke about “Ideal Property Profile and Practices for Small Cell Deployments,” discussing how small cells will not be placed on existing towers but will require new locations in dense urban markets, which may require building new poles, strengthening existing street lights or mounting the cells on the side of buildings. Each location presents its own set of challenges in terms of cost, zoning, permissions, right of way, access, managing deployments and asset tracking. This session examined the benefits and drawbacks of each location, the challenges presented by rights of way and zoning and best practices for managing small-cell rollouts.
