Kristin Hird is an associate in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. She focuses her practice on consumer protection matters, including advertising and privacy and information security.

Ms. Hird counsels clients regarding state and federal consumer protection laws and regulations as well as all aspects of regulatory compliance with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). She also represents clients involved in FTC, state and private investigations and litigation involving advertising claims.

Ms. Hird has a particular focus on privacy and data security, deceptive practices, and electronic commerce matters that affect financial institutions, including banks, credit unions and credit card issuers. She advices clients regarding the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and Truth in Lending Act (TLA) as they relate to consumer credit issues.

Prior to joining Kelley Drye, Ms. Hird worked in private practice with a focus on civil and criminal litigation and as a judicial extern at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
Representative Experience
Assisted in the representation of national credit card provider in FTC action alleging violations of the FTC Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), resulting in negotiation of favorable settlement.

Advised leading retailer regarding revisions to customer loyalty program and compliance with FTC guidance on continuity programs.

Member of litigation team representing major direct selling retailer in contract enforcement litigation and arbitration.
