Keri Campbell is a partner in the firm's Los Angeles office. Ms. Campbell's strength as a litigator arises from her ability to efficiently solve complex problems for her clients. Her practice covers a wide variety of substantive areas of law from entertainment and intellectual property to employment matters and partnership dissolution. Her experience includes complex contract and business tort disputes, profit participation disputes, and false advertising and deceptive trade practices litigation involving violations of California's Business & Professions Code § 17200. Ms. Campbell has extensive experience in litigating complex civil matters in both state and federal courts, as well as in institutional arbitration tribunals and alternative dispute resolution.
Early in her career, Ms. Campbell served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Robert J. Timlin, Judge of the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
Representative Experience
Successfully represented a cooperative association of 450 family-owned dairies, maker of the best selling brand of butter in the Western U.S., in a class action filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging that the labeling of certain of their dairy products were false and misleading in violation of the California Unfair Competition statutes, as well as the Consumer Legal Remedies Act. Judge dismissed the case with prejudice on federal preemption grounds.
Obtained summary judgment for a production design company against copyright, Lanham Act and state unfair competition claims on the basis that the use of the plaintiff's artwork constituted "fair use" and that plaintiff failed to show that he had a valid, protectable trademark.
Obtained a defense verdict for a major motion picture studio against claims for breach of contract, accounting and fraud brought by a profit participation regarding the motion picture Mortal Kombat.
In an arbitration, secured a verdict for an independent production company against accounting claims brought by a profit participant. In a related case, obtained a favorable settlement of accounting claims brought by another profit participant.
Represented a private equity investment firm in dissolution of partnership and assertion of claims of breach of fiduciary duty and fraud against former employees and partner. Ms. Campbell was able to obtain favorable settlements in three separate actions on the eve of trial.
Represented a television network against claims of breach of contract, fraud, interference with contract and interference with prospective economic advantage involving the termination of an advertising agency. After obtaining dismissal of all but one claim at summary judgment, obtained a favorable settlement on the eve of trial.
Won a trial for a real estate developer on claims of breach of contract against a local municipality.
Obtained a defense verdict in a wrongful termination case brought by a former top executive of a national radio network.
Obtained summary judgment on behalf a real estate developer, protecting the developer against an action to set aside the purchase of a commercial property.
Obtained a defense verdict for an independent production company against claims of fraud and breach of contract in connection with the production and distribution of two motion pictures.
Won a $1.6 million judgment in an arbitration between two co-producers regarding the production, distribution and financing of two motion pictures.
In representing studios and production companies, Ms. Campbell has obtained several favorable settlements of profit participation and accounting disputes arising out of motion pictures and television.
