Shabbir Wakhariya is a partner in the firm’s New York and Mumbai affiliate offices. He focuses his practice on the laws of India, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, cross-border securities offerings, and general corporate and litigation matters.

Mr. Wakhariya’s clients include the world’s second largest vaccine manufacturing company, for which he serves as exclusive Indian counsel. He also represents the world’s leading metal trader.
 
Representative Experience:
Advising a U.S. telecommunications equipment manufacturer on contractual and commercial issues.

Advising a U.S. telecommunications carrier on back-office processing and call center issues.

Representing the second largest U.S. telecommunications company on Indian entry strategy and regulatory and commercial issues.

Advised a global virtual private network (VPN) service provider on entry strategy and licensing issues.

Represented an Indian transmission utility in drafting and negotiating a right-of-way concession agreement for use of street lighting poles to lay fiber optic cable.

Represented an international Internet service provider (ISP) in evaluating the Indian Internet market and advised on entry strategy.

Represented a German consortium in connection with the construction of India’s first private international airport.

Represented a major international bank acting as onshore trustee in two infrastructure projects.

Represented an international hotel group in restructuring its operations in India and in acquiring and managing new hotel properties.

Represented and advised an international media and entertainment group in the restructuring of its Indian subsidiaries and joint venture structures, and on initial public offering issues.

Represented a major Indian corporate group in restructuring its joint venture with two major international companies.

Represented and advised Indian and other foreign banks operating in New York on regulatory and compliance issues and in commercial lending transactions, including drafting loan and security documents.
